Curious Conundrums - Answers to questions you secretly asked.
Why would I need a Birth Mate (doula)?
Well, it's like having a personal birth superhero by your side! Research shows that having a doula during pregnancy, childbirth, and postpartum significantly ups your odds of rocking a smooth and positive birth experience.
So, what do you mean by that?
Less birth risks
Shorter labour
Lower chances of having a caesarean section
Lower chances of having an epidural or other interventions
Greater satisfaction with overall birth experience
A greater sense of confidence in yourself and your birth which is likely to make you feel more capable of caring for your newborn

Doula vs Midwife?
A Doula is non-medically trained emotional and physical support person for you and your partner from pregnancy to birth through to postpartum.
Midwife is a medical professional with specialized training. They provide primary and reproductive care, including prenatal care during pregnancy as well as overseeing birth and care for newborns.
Think of doctors and midwives as the essential, skilled players on your pregnancy team. They bring the medical know-how, tests, and check-ups to the table, making sure you and your little one are in tip-top shape.
But here's where I, your Birth Mate (doula), come in, like your trusty sidekick:
I'm your emotional cheerleader, providing support that goes beyond the clinical stuff. When the big day arrives, I'm right there with you, helping you navigate early labour at home and safely making the journey to the hospital or birth center. I'm your birthing buddy, sticking by your side until you and your newborn are all snug and comfortable and that could look like weeks or months into your postpartum.
So, while doctors and midwives handle the medical, I've got your back with the emotional, physical, and educational support you need to rock this pregnancy journey!
Will my partner feel like they’re being replaced if we hire a doula?
Short answer- No.
Remember that seamless flow of care I mentioned before? We’re the ultimate tag team. Trust me, there’s a secret Olympics happening behind the scenes. Picture this: your partner’s in charge of updating the (impatient) fam, capturing Kodak moments, being the birthing superhero and suddenly turning into a human encyclopedia of birthing and baby facts (remember those birthing class brainwaves?) And all this while dreaming of a coffee break or a bathroom escape!
Enter the Birth Mate, the trusty sidekick in a dynamic duo. Picture them as your partner’s personal coach dishing out high-fives and insider tips to keep the squad strong. They’re the Birth Mate-for-Birth Mates, there to boost your partner’s morale while they’re boosting yours. From game-changing tips to TLC that nurtures their needs too, Birth Mate is the power-up your partner didn’t know they needed. So whether they’re into full-on participation or prefer a low-key background role, Birth Mate has their back too.
Isn’t HypnoBirthing for hippies or those who want a drug free ‘natural’ birth?
HypnoBirthing is about educating and empowering ALL expectant parents with practical tools to stay cool, calm and collected no matter where or how they choose to birth. Yes hypnobirthing is for homebirths, hospital births, VBAC, elective caesareans, inductions, all the drugs please, freebirths in the forests, birthing on a trampoline in Africa with a lion approaching. It is for ALL births.
Look I’ll be the first to admit the name ‘HypnoBirthing’ can be little off putting. However, I can guarantee you will not have a pocket watch waved in front of you commanding you to feel no pain when it is time to birth your baby. Pain is subjective; what one woman calls painful is another woman’s walk in the park. One might roar, scream, moo, while another might be silent or even orgasm (yep, it is possible). All sensations are unique to the woman experiencing them. There are no rules in birth.
Do you offer payment plans?
Absolutely, yes. We can arrange instalments that are as easy as Sunday morning.
